Rabo who?

So you might of heard of us but you want to know more. No problem. We'll get you up to speed. RaboDirect.ie is an online bank.  In fact, we're Ireland's only 'internet only' bank.  We're part of the Dutch Rabobank Group and so we're the only triple A rated bank in Ireland. RaboDirect has been up and running in Ireland since May 2005, but Rabobank have had offices here in the IFSC since 1994. Rabobank also own ACCBank and are Europe's biggest online bank. In fact 75% of the Dutch people bank online with Rabobank.nl.

Why we're different!

We couldn't be more different when compared with our other financial competitors. We operate exclusively online, i.e. we've no branch network which means our costs are low. We don't use financial jargon to explain our products and we don't do sneaky terms and conditions. We're straight talking and are honest and open about what we have to offer. We've simplified savings for personal and business customers and we've made investing in managed funds a whole lot more accessible and cheaper.

We engage with our customers as much as possible. Our blog is our most recent example of this. We're always improving our online offering, giving our customers more control over their money, the way a bank should look after its customers.

As we launch of our new Truth campaign we want to continue to tell it like it is in terms of what we've got to offer. Honest financial products from one of the world's safest banks. A bank who tells the truth? Now how refreshing is that!

The RaboDirect Team

You might think as a bank, there should be a huge number of people working here. Not so. There's just 18 of us. We're a young team and we're challenged by the rewards that come from doing things differently in a traditionally staid industry.

Roel van Veggel is the General Manager. A Dutch man/honorary Irish man who, since his arrival here in September 2008, has been at the helm during the ongoing financial storm. Roel has been a senior executive with Rabobank Group for 12 years and joined RaboDirect from Rabobank Indonesia where he held the position of Business Strategy and Communications Manager. Although exclusively online, we do have a dedicated crew in our Customer Contact Centre to help you out if you've any queries. As a small team, each individual has a huge part to play in making RaboDirect a success. 

You'll see Roel and other members of the RaboDirect team in various elements of our Truth campaign over the coming months proving that indeed an online bank can hold its own in a bricks and mortar dominated industry!

We're triple A rated

We're triple A rated, not a lot of banks are so we're rightly proud of that. It means that our credit rating is as good as it gets and Rabobank Group was once again voted the World's Safest Privately Owned Bank by Global Finance Magazine in August 2009. In assets size we're actually bigger than AIB and Bank of Ireland… put together, but they don't like hearing that. We're also the only online bank in Ireland to guarantee secure online banking with our No-Fraud Online Guarantee. So while some banks talk about how safe their online banking security is… we've actually done something about it.

Licensed by the Dutch Central Bank

We're licensed by the Dutch Central Bank but we also fully comply with the codes of practice set out by the Financial Regulator in Ireland. So you don't have to worry about your rights as a consumer.
