Investing when interest rates are low

In May 2009 we saw ECB interest rates (currently 1%) drop to an all time low. Good news indeed for those of you with a tracker or variable mortgage as your costs will have reduced significantly since last autumn, but what does it mean for those of you relying on generating an income from your savings?
