Regular Investor Plan FAQs

Who’s the plan suitable for?

It's generally favoured by lower-risk investors with long-term financial goals. These could be anything from school fees, a deposit on a new home or building a nice little retirement nest egg. It's a slow and steady way of investing at a pace you can afford, helping you get the best average fund price over time and avoiding the risk of trying to time the market.

How much do I need to get started?

You can get started with just €100. That's the minimum amount you can invest in any one fund.

How many funds can I invest in as part of my plan?

You can invest in as many or as few of our funds as you like. All we ask is that you have enough in the RaboDirect savings account that feeds your plan. The rest is up to you.

Can I change or cancel my plan?

Of course you can. You can make changes or cancel any time you like and there are no charges for either. Just make sure you make your changes well in advance of your investment dates. It's your plan so it's important that you've absolute control over it.

Are there any fees?

As a bank, we're not mad about unnecessary fees. There's no charge for setting up a Regular Investor Plan and no fees if you make changes or decide to cancel it down the line. The only fees you'll pay are entry and exit fees. We list these upfront next to all our funds on our Fund Selector.

They're generally 0.75% of your buy or sell amount so, if you invested €100, €99.25 would be invested for you. That's one of the highest allocation rates in Ireland! We also run promotions from time to time reducing or removing entry fees altogether, so keep your eyes peeled for alerts on the site.

What happens if I don’t have enough money in my RaboDirect savings account to cover the cost of my investments?

Don't worry, if you don't have enough in your savings account the day before we're due to buy your funds, we won't make the purchase. You won't incur any silly charges either. We'll simply make the purchase for you next time round. Just keep an eye on your account to make sure the funds are there for next time.

Where can I follow the investments made as part of my plan?

Log on using your Digipass - it's a little safety device we give all our customers which gives you full access all your account details in a safe and secure area of our site. Click on your Regular Investor Plan details and you'll see all the transactions made under your plan. You can make changes to your plan or cancel it anytime using the same little device.

What’s the difference between investing and speculating?

Investors use a consistent, long-term strategy to build a more secure future. Speculators and market timers are willing to change direction over night and as a result tend to gamble more.

It's easy to turn speculator when markets take a nosedive but regular investing can help avoid the pitfalls of market turbulence and give you a more secure long-term price and plan to help you achieve your financial goals.
