Killian Nolan, Investment Manager at RaboDirect, has his say:

“2008 has been a rollercoaster year of upheaval and surprises.

The majority of investors have had a torrid time over the last 12 months and your portfolio valuations have been significantly reduced. No matter where or with whom you were invested there was no shelter from the volatility in the markets and it looks like volatility will remain a factor for the early part of 2009.

Even though some uncertainty remains in the short term I believe we are now starting to see value appear in some markets. This does not mean I will be jumping in head first but I do think it is a good time to start introducing funds into the market on the “drip”.

In order to give some guidance to investors in 2009 RaboDirect asked each of the investment houses to put forward the funds they believe have the best opportunity to outperform in 2009 and beyond.

There are ten funds included in “Top Picks 2009” and they are well diversified across the risk spectrum. Hopefully most investors will find it a useful guide for future investing and let’s hope 2009 has fewer surprises!”
