Investment Options

Everyone has their own reasons for investing and the amounts we have to invest can vary greatly, so we offer a few options which means you can choose the route that suits you best.

Lump Sum InvestingLump sum investing

Some of us will be lucky enough to receive a lump sum of money at some point in our lives, maybe from the sale of a house or business or a bonus from work. If you do, you’ll want to put it to good use. For some, this might be a well thought out, long-term investment. We’ve the most diversified list of funds on the Irish market so you’ve come to the right place if you’re thinking about investing.

If you haven’t invested before we recommend checking out some of our tools and calculators. They can help you get a better understanding of the type of investor you are and the funds likely to suit your risk appetite.

Regular InvestingRegular investing

Regular investing is more of a ‘drip-feed’ approach that helps reduce the risks normally associated with large lump sum investments. With this type of plan, you invest a fixed amount in a particular fund on a regular basis. The amount invested will stay the same for as long as you like, but the number of shares you buy will vary depending on the fund price.

Your set amount will buy you more shares per Euro when markets and prices are low and less when they're high which means you get a better average share price over time, without running the risk of trying to time the market.

Investing for KidsInvesting for kids

We’ve a few Mums and Dads in the RaboDirect Team and they’re all of the opinion that investing, even a small amount, for your children when they’re young could be one of the most important things you do for them.

The rising costs of education, getting married and buying a first car or home means a lot parents are having to support their children financially for longer, so getting a head start makes sense if you want to give them a helping hand (or soften the blow down the line, however you look at it).

Deposit interest rates are set to fall further in many of the Irish domestic banks and while equity markets had a good run in 2009 the same can’t be said for the first five months of 2010.
