June 2007 - Security Reminder

RaboDirect customers know that we take online security very seriously which is why we use the Digipass. We are still the only bank in Ireland to offer customers a 'No-Fraud Online Guarantee'. Because criminals continually seek out ways to get around security systems it's vital that we don't become lazy when it comes to security. Rabobank's European security teams are constantly monitoring online security threats to stay one step ahead. By taking some simple precautions on a regular basis you can help to keep yourself safe online.

  • Always use a firewall as part of your anti-virus protection software on your computer. It is crucial that you download regular updates and patches to your anti-virus software both for your firewall and your virus scanner.

  • Install security updates on your computer's operating system for Windows and Mac. You can download these from Microsoft and Apple.

  • Regularly scan your computer for 'spyware'. Spyware is software that can collect your personal information without your consent. For example, it can be used to record your keystrokes, scan documents on your hard drive or record your web browser history. It can often be hidden in free software applications that you can download from the web. Be very wary of downloading software from unknown sources.

  • Do not open emails from people you don't know especially when these emails have attachments.

  • When banking online with RaboDirect you should always make sure that the web address is either https://secure1.rabodirect.ie/ or https://secure2.rabodirect.ie/. Be vigilant by looking out for the's' in https and always look for the secure padlock icon normally located at the bottom of your screen.

  • If you use a wireless modem to access broadband you should make sure that it is secured to prevent others from accessing your broadband connection. If you don't know how to do this you should contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

Remember:

  • You do not disclose your Customer Number or Digipass PIN to anyone.

  • Do not write the Digipass PIN on the back of your Digipass!

  • RaboDirect will NEVER EVER send you an email requesting you to divulge your Customer Number or Digipass PIN code.

  • If you lose your Digipass please request a new one immediately

  • If you suspect a fraud notify us immediately

We appreciate you taking the time to read this security reminder. You can find more information about this in the Online Security pages of our website. Even though we take stringent security precautions we need you to do your bit by keeping vigilant and taking the precautions recommended above.
